Variety Magazine Highlights Composer Chase Bethea in New Feature
May 22, 2026I recently made it into Variety, and to be transpicuous I am very excited and proud.
Landing a feature in a major, tier-one publication like this is a massive milestone mostly because it is incredibly hard to do.
When you see artists or developers get this level of press, it rarely happens especially for independent video game composers. To land a publication of this caliber, I discovered that you have to be in the right place.
It takes patience and consistency. But getting on their radar is only half the battle.
I was featured in Variety’s “Upcoming Releases” column. They highlighted Duppy Detective Tashia, the Caribbean folklore-inspired noir mystery I’ve been hired to score by developer SpriteWrench.
For this project, the seven-track soundtrack was not designed as background music it serves as a central narrative device shaping the emotional cadence and atmosphere of the game. Seeing that creative vision recognized in a mainstream trade means the world to me.
BIG LOVE to Jenny for acknowledging my work and getting this feature for me.
