Third Speaker Announcement!! I am Speaking at GDC 2024!
March 16, 2024I shall be returning again to GDC. This I believe marks my 12th year!
I will be co-hosting a round-table at Game Developers Conference this year alongside Star Victoria Power, Katelyn Isaacson, and Noa Beazley.
The game industry and other technology focused industries are overwhelmingly populated at all levels by individuals who identify as majority American/European, and male. With the social movements in recent years – the attention brought to Black Lives Matter in 2020, and Stop Asian Hate in 2020 & 2021 – there has been a rise in the amount of energy and social consciousness devoted to addressing systemic issues in the world.
However, there remains a substantial amount of work to do throughout the games industry as a whole. As members of the industry, one powerful way for us to effect change is to ensure to continue these conversations and discuss specific strategies for opportunities to become more abundant with proper compensation and representation.
As a minority American video game composer, it is very hard to navigate this industry at times. Nepotism and favoritism is very real a biased towards the type of people that dominate.
To streamline this discussion, the panelists and I will prepare an itinerary of questions for our panelists and proceed through them, with each panelist moving us along the agenda to the next question once conversation surrounding the previous one has come to a natural conclusion.
GDC is always an interesting place. With over 30k attendees joining in across the globe, it is still the energizing conference that most game developers attend or dream to attend. It truly is a privileged to be a speaker in some fashion three years in a row now.
